What is Music Therapy?

Music Therapy is the application of evidenced-based musical interventions carried out by a Registered Music Therapist.

Music Therapy aims to improve and support an individual or group's health and wellbeing goals. It can help people of all ages from a variety of client populations to support their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. Anyone can engage in Music Therapy!

RMT's work across the life-span, from newborn babies to older adults.

What is a Registered Music Therapist (RMT)?

A Registered Music Therapist is a person who is registered with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA). They would have completed a certified university course and regularly maintain their skills and build knowledge through regular professional development.

What is Telehealth?

Sessions are conducted online. Instead of your Music Therapist coming to your home, you engage musically through a device such as an iPad or Laptop. Telehealth was introduced as a service during lock-downs due to COVID-19. With its success, many therapists still continue to offer this service.

Who is Telehealth for?

  • Clients who are immune suppressed or admitted for inpatient treatment preventing face-to-face contact

  • Anyone who finds in-person sessions overwhelming

  • People who are living in an area with limited access to a RMT

How much does it cost?

Telehealth and face-to-face sessions are charged at the same rate.

During the first 1-2 sessions, the Music Therapist will see if Telehealth is a suitable method for the participant and whether the session could be shorter/greater. Sessions are usually a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Fees are based on the current standard in the allied health professions guideline and pricing guidelines by the NDIS.

Fees are aligned with the 2024 NDIS Price Guide $188 per hour

Non-contact time of 15 minutes is always added to the invoice so that RMT can prepare resources, evaluate program and write notes post session.

NDIS related Info

Music Therapy carried out by a Registered Music Therapist (RMT) is recognised by the NDIS under CAPACITY BUILDING- IMPROVED DAILY LIVING.

15_615_0128_1_3 Assessment Recommendation Therapy or Training - Music Therapist

For children younger than 7 years old:  15_615_0128_1_3

At this stage, Bloom and Flow is NOT registered as an NDIS provider. Self-Managed and Plan Managed clients can access our services.

Will I be charged the same fee if I have technical issues?

This will be at the discretion of the therapist and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The therapist will certainly be lenient with initial teething issues, however a minimum session fee and the cancellation policy will still apply.
